This post was inspired by the Minecraft YouTube channel “The Decayed”, and many other inspirations such as Arthur Schopenhauer, Friedrich Nietzsche, and other philosophers who pondered about the possibilities of free will, souls, and consciousness.

The following poem was my main inspiration:

“Doing and doing and doing, without a reason, without a consciousness, without a change, without an end. Is there ever a day we will see the end of the tunnel or will we just remain, watching life walk right past us, feeling the wind hit our face, letting the rain pour all over us, like the grains of sand we are, placed by destiny, where we will forever stay like a flower that never bloomed…”
– MD from ‘The Decayed’

Sometimes I wonder, do we really have any free will, a Soul, or even consciousness?
I mean, look around, the same monotony, the same routine, the same everything.
What is it that proves that we have any of these?

Of course, I’m just a beginner in many aspects, even life, and as such, I could not give you an answer. However, I can give you at the very least the questions that I have.

Alright, so why do we feel empty if we have consciousness, souls, or free will? If we had even one of those, wouldn’t that mean that we would be able to do something that gives us long-lasting satisfaction?
So, what now? Do we get up and start moving, ignoring our questions, and stop seeking answers, or do we stop and think of these possibilities and ponder on what happens next? Anything could happen. For example, Atheists say there is no god, and as such, no afterlife, religious and spiritual people say that there is “Something” out there, we don’t know what it is, but they assume it is good, even some Atheists consider the absence of an afterlife good.

However, we just don’t know what lies out there, and we are afraid to admit it. What is it that haunts people so much when the thought of death occurs? It is always there… the fear… the terror. But have you ever stopped and asked “Why?”, only recently I have asked myself these questions, and I’m genuinely afraid myself on what could happen.

And that brings us back to the start, doesn’t it? It was quite the journey. And so, now what? Well, let’s go back to the question of death. Why are we so afraid of it? Could it be confirmation that we do not have a “soul”? And what about boring routines and the monotonous things we do? Does that mean we don’t have a “consciousness”? I mean, so little is known about consciousness. And what about our choices? Why are they so hard to make? Why is it so difficult to make new and original ones? Why does history repeat itself? Is it because we have no “Free Will”?

Let me make it clear that every thinker who has tried to give an answer to these questions either doesn’t know what they’re doing, and as such, flying too close to the sun, melting their wings like Icarus did, or still they don’t know what they are doing, flying too close to the sun, burning their wings, but at least people like me know when to say that they don’t know. So I’m saying it now. I don’t know what I’m doing. This is just my philosophy journal. I may fly too close to the sun, but at least I’m not going to pretend like I know everything.

And with that, I’ll leave you with this; think for yourself. Make your own answers.

Take care
